In January of 2001, San Francisco Waterfront Partner, LLC (SFWP) was selected by The Port of San Francisco (Port), to adaptively redevelop and re-use the historic Piers 1 ½, 3 and 5. The Project focuses on preserving and rehabilitating the historic maritime design of the Northeast Waterfront and the Ferry Building Waterfront while enhancing the public use and access to the historic and scenic waterfront setting.
The Piers are centrally located on the east side of The Embarcadero, between Washington and Broadway Streets. The Piers will provide approximately 60,000 square feet of commercial office space, 17,000 sf of cafés and restaurants (including outdoor seating) and over 40,000 sf of public access area.
The Project achieves multi-use objectives by incorporating the following uses: public access, cultural and historic points of interest for the public, restaurants and cafés, maritime uses, commercial office space, water taxi services, recreational boating and fishing, and transportation support structures.
The construction of the $55 million historic rehabilitation of Piers 1 ½, 3 and 5 began in April of 2004 and is now complete.
